Also remember, everybody, that the game is not (at least at the moment) designed around having a big economy, like SWG was. There is very little player crafting, and that's almost solely for yourself. Because of this, I would say that vendors are definitely a bad idea. Auction House is probably the best solution, but those take time and I really don't think it is necessary enough to spend the time it would require before release.
Hopefully it'll get implemented a few months down the road, though. Until then, I really think the trade channel works well enough.

heh i see this in the trade channel all the time in beta:
SOMEONE: WLL TRADE BONE AND IRON FOR HIDES
OTHERGUY: Need a sword
RANDOMGUY: NEED BONE & IRON
CRAZYGUY:WILL TRADE HIDES FOR IRON
and ppl will go on spamming like that. the point is TALK TO EACHOTHER. it makes me laugh how someome will WTS hides and soeone on the next line will go WTB hides and they both spam like that in the channel for a bit when they could just wisper eachother.
Also on another note if your spamming to sell something REPLY TO WHISPERS. the amount of times i have sent a msg to somehting to buy what there selling and they ignore me and carry on spamming.

You trade-happy people are getting on my damn nerves. Damn capitalists. Why are you trying to make an economy out of nothing? It is not that kind of game. If this is what GW is all about for you, I'm sure Arenanet is happy for your money anyway, but I'm certain you'd be happier with the whole items thing in Lineage 2 or Mir 3? Where you can literally kill someone in RL over your items.

With the exception of this paragraph, this post was a pretty good one. I think it sums up why there wasn't much emphasis on trading. Why do we need a robust trading system for an almost non-existent economy? It'd make life easier but at the cost of what ?

My one suggestion for the trade system, is for people to be able to trade by hitting the players name on the chat screen if that player typed in trade.
Its annoying trying to meet people in towns just to trade.

That is true... it is annoying to always find a certain meeting place or have to track them down. Although I just made sure to meet somewhere specific and always meet there (i.e. Fireplace at outfitters in Old ascalon)

Keep the discussion to relevant points!
I've had to do a lot of pruning here.
Do not hijack threads.
Keep the points relevant to the discussion at hand. This thread is about the trade system in Guild Wars.
If you do not have anything to say on that subject, do not say anything.
If the thread continues to veer off-topic, it will be closed.
All of you who had threads deleted, consider yourselves warned.

I really wasn't bothered by the trade channel. I turned it on to see who wanted what, and who was selling what. When I saw something that interested me, I whispered to that user and the transaction was made.
Also, when I had things in my inventory that nobody was wanting, I just unloaded at the outfitters. A trade hall would be cool, but, I find that being a skilled haggler is kinda fun too.

If they were strapped for time, why didn't they just use a message board type system for trades.Just add a message and someone can use a search feature to find the item they're looking to trade for.

i think its rather easy to find someone in a city or outpost. just hold ctrl and look for their name and run to them. very simple. i got most of the materials i needed from monsters i killed while exploring and doing quests. i believe the current system is sufficient for the amount of trading i have done and assume i will be required to do in the future.

I was actually very pleased with this system, I had no trouble finding and selling items, my only complaint would be that there are still asshats using the all channel for trade, idiots like that deserved to be neutered.
